DGB is said to be the key to lowering fuel costs without lowering performance. This dual-fuel technology optimizes fuel use from diesel to liquid natural gas (LNG), delivering the same performance as diesel-only trucks, while improvements in fuel, emissions and maintenance can add up to millions in cost savings, according to Cat. Dynamic gas blending is a technology that vaporizes liquid fuel into natural gas, and replaces diesel fuel with LNG when possible. With machine software that communicates with the engine and tank, working conditions determine which fuel source is used. The key to higher savings is the amount of LNG fuel that displaces diesel fuel. This is referred to as fuel displacement. The average cycle displacement is between 55% and 65%. With the cost of natural gas being up to 30% less than diesel, this is where the savings begin to grow. Cat adds that DGB technology is available for Cat 785C and 793D mining trucks. On new trucks in 2019, DGB can be dealer installed. On existing trucks, it can be retrofitted. Download the DGB brochure to learn more.
