Take part in this short course during the Yellowknife Geoscience Forum. Registration for the conference is not required to participate. The major theme of the course is directed at designing and managing mine waste systems for closure, with a special focus on northern considerations, including impacts of a changing climate.

Decades of experience have proven most problems encountered during the closure of a mine waste facility are the result of the principal methods selected for the management and disposal of the wastes. Although the majority of industry experience with mine closure is found in mines located south of 60, this course will examine in detail the experience and lessons learned from sites north of 60. Mine waste management, disposal and closure techniques that can, and cannot, be applied to mine sites in the North from southern experience will also be explored.

The aim of this short course is to advise on best available technologies for designing and managing mine waste storage landforms that cost-effectively improve their geotechnical and environmental performance for closure.
