| Main Body | This intensive 8-day course will explore the fundamentals of the physics and chemistry of ore-forming fluids in hydrothermal systems. The course will provide an introduction to concepts that are critical to understanding hydrothermal ore deposits and exploring for a variety of mineral deposit types in both continental and submarine environments. We will examine aspects of fluid flow and the hydrogeology of active geothermal systems, the processes that influence permeability evolution and permeability-depth relationships, mineral stabilities and controls on metal solubilty in hydrothermal systems, P-T-pH-redox conditions and their importance in ore formation, and the integration of basic fieldwork and sample descriptions to unravel fluid-rock interactions. Leading experts will discuss methods for interpreting field and laboratory data, providing participants with a practical understanding of the behaviour of ore elements and alteration in a variety of hydrothermal systems … “from drill core to phase diagrams and back". A special session will also be presented by Dr. Louis Cabri (Cabri Consulting Inc.) on practical aspects of quantitative mineralogy in sulfide and gold ores from a metallurgical perspective. |

Professionals: CAD$500 per module
Students: CAD$50 per module, CAD$75 per module after December 14.
