SummaryLiam will discuss the growing trend around the world of governments asserting greater control over natural resources located within their country through means such as taxation and restrictions on export, using examples such as recent law changes in Indonesia, Chile and others. Mining companies and their investors need to be aware of the increasing threat to privately owned resource projects of creeping nationalization. Liam will also highlight the media attention some companies are receiving regarding the taxes they disclose in financial reports that inadvertently feeds demands for resource nationalism, with some commentary on how such scrutiny can be avoided.
