| Main Body | The demand for iron and its alloys has risen sharply due to intense global industrialization since the beginning of the new millennium. Major investments have not only been in the Labrador Trough, but also in the high arctic Mary River District and on the major new chromite reserves in the Ring of Fire District of the James Bay Lowlands. Although much has been written on the origin of Iron Formations, new production is focusing on high-grade (>60% Fe) direct-shipping iron ores. This short course will focus on processes that upgrade protore BIFs and explore BIF/IOCG connections. It will be of interest to exploration companies re-aligning strategies to meet the shifting metal markets of the 21st century. The views expressed at this short course will span industry, government and academic perspectives. Proceeds from this symposium will go toward the SEG London Student Chapter Field Trip to the Dominican Republic, May 2013. |
