Lukas Lundin is now president of Vancouver-based Atacama Minerals. He succeeds Richard Clark who resigned on Jan. 19. The company operates the Aguas Blancas iodine mine in Chile.
David E. Blann has joined Bishop Gold of Vancouver as its VP of exploration. His duties will include supervision of the company’s programs at the Lawyers Group properties in the Toodoggone region of British Columbia.
Terry MacGibbon, president and CEO of FNX Mining, has been awarded the 2004 Viola MacMillan Developer’s Award by the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada. Under MacGibbon, FNX Mining has evolved from a junior exploration company into a profitable nickel mining company in less than two years.
Forest Gate Resources of Montreal has hired Steve Roebuck as VP exploration, replacing Pieter Du Plessis who has left the company. Roebuck was most recently production supervisor at the Ekati diamond mine.
VVC Exploration recently named Jean-Paul Boily as president and CEO of the
company. The former president, Patrick Fernet, will remain on the board and serve as VP of corporate and legal affairs.
Calgary-based Western Warrior Resources’ new president is George R. Kent. He brings more than 50 years of experience in all phases to exploration and mining geology to the post.
The new president & CEO of Vancouver’s Lake Shore Gold is Brian R. Booth. He will resign from his current post at Inco on Feb. 15. Booth replaces Daniel G. Innes who will remain with Lake Shore as chairman.
Dr. George H. Gale, well known in Canadian geological circles, has joined Vancouver’s Rare Earth Metals as VP of exploration. Based in Manitoba, Gale will oversee the company’s 2005 drill programs at Assean Lake (gold), Eden Lake (IOCG, uranium and rare earth elements), and South Bay (nickel).
Philippe Giaro is the new VP of exploration at Montreal’s Searchgold Resources. He will be based in Belgium and responsible for the company’s African projects. He graduated from McGill University in 1984.
Toronto-based Southernera Diamonds announced the appointment of Chris Reynolds to the position of senior VP and CFO. He was previously the VP finance, controller and secretary for both SouthernEra and Southern Platinum Corp.
W. Warren Holmes has become a director of Toronto-based Twin Mining Corp., which is bringing its first gold mine, Atlanta, into production in Idaho.
Thomas Pollock has been appointed VP of exploration at Vancouver-based Valgold Resources. He joined ValGold three years ago and was most recently the company’s manager and qualified person for the exploration and development of the Tongchanggou copper/gold project and other projects within China.
Obituary
Jean-Jacques Martel has died at the age of 78. Martel was one of the founders of Northern Mining Explorations and a highly regarded member of the Canadian mining industry. As a Member of Parliament from 1958 to 1962, Martel defended the interests and merits of the Canadian mining industry. In recognition of his services, he was awarded the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada’s Distinguished Service Award.
