Barrick Gold of Toronto has recently named Alex Davidson executive VP of exploration and corporate development. He joined the company in 1993. Previously Davidson was VP of exploration, a post now filled by Rob Kromarov.
Toronto-based Contact Diamond Corp. has added five new members to its board of directors. They are retired hockey star and Canadian senator Frank Mahovlich; Michael A. Ballantyne (VP of Aber Diamond); professional geologist Peter C. Hubacheck; finance and tax consultant John G. Jakolev; and accountant Charles J. Lilly.
DRC Resources of Vancouver has added Clifford J. Davis to its board. He is a graduate of the Royal School of Mines in London, U.K., and has more than 40 years of international mining experience in both operations and development. DRC is exploring and hoping to reopen the Afton copper mine in British Columbia.
A new president has been named for Calgary-based Groundstar Resources. He is Kam A. Fard. Acting president Charles M. Gryba is now VP business development, and Kenneth Chobotuk has been named VP exploration.
Kensington Resources says that James (Jim) Rothwell has accepted the position of chairman. He was formerly an executive at Dia Met Minerals and worked for BHP Minerals when the Ekati diamond mine was developed.
Toronto-based Kinross Gold has named Tye Burt its new president and CEO. He will take up his duties in early April when Bob Buchan steps down. Burt was most recently vice-chairman and executive director of corporate development at Barrick.
Feisal Somji has been named to the post of president and CEO at Muskox Minerals of Calgary. He will retain his duties as CFO until a replacement can be found. Also, Harry McGucken has been named the COO of Muskox. He has been on the company’s board since 1997. Two resignations were announced, that of Dr. Roger Morton from the post of CEO and William Dynes from the post of VP exploration. Both men will remain on the board of directors.
Odyssey Resources of Toronto has named Gregory B. Maynard its new VP exploration. He joins the technical management team, which is preparing for work at the company’s Tavsan gold property in Turkey and a copper/silver exploration project in Mexico.
Samuel K.C. Yik has been tapped as Pine Valley Mining’s new VP of corporate development and commercial operations. He is a chartered account and holder of a commerce degree from the University of British Columbia.
Strathmore Minerals of Vancouver has two new members of its management team. John DeJoia, with over 30 years of uranium mining experience, is VP technical services. Juan Velasquez, with his more than 30 years of uranium experience, is VP environmental and regulatory affairs.
Terraco Gold Corp. of Vancouver has named Charles Sulfrian as new VP exploration. He has an extensive background in gold exploration and operations in the United States and China. His name is associated with the discovery of the Post oxide and the Deep Post deposits at the Goldstrike mine in Nevada.
Western Oil Sands of Calgary has appointed a new president and CEO, James C. Houck. Recently he was a principal of a U.S.-based private energy merchant banking firm. Prior to that he spent most of his career with ChevronTexaco and its predecessor, Texaco.
