Selwyn Chihong completes winter mobilization of equipment

Unlike many Yukon mining companies, Selwyn Chihong Mining Ltd worked through the harsh winter months and successfully completed the mobilization of heavy mining equipment and supplies to “The Selwyn Project,” a massive zinc-lead deposit on the Yukon and Northwest Territories borders.

The winter work involved clearing and repairing a 79 km road from km 188 of the Nahanni Range Road that winds north in NWT until it crossed the Yukon border and arrived at Selwyn’s “Camp XY.”

In total, 82 B-train truck loads of equipment and supplies were hauled along the road and across ice bridges to the site. “Camp XY” is a tent facility currently housing 30 people, but will have a capacity of 50 workers when the company’s drilling program and advanced underground exploration begins this summer.

Scope of the underground work is to test the quality of the ore and test mining methods… About 1570 m are slated for decline and access to the lead-zinc mineralization, and another 700 m is allocated for an exploration drift.
