Students provide great resource
When it comes to hiring students for part-time employment, the Canadian mining industry is almost second to none. With a shortfall of 100,000 workers predicted within the next decade, the mining industry is concerned about these prospects and through a number of programs, it has taken an agressive position of helping encourage students to look at mining as a career.
One program that is attracting both students and potenaial mining employers alike is AIESEC, the world’s largest, non-profit, international organization designed to explore and develop leadship potential in students.
Vale, for example, is a partner in the program and through its interaction with the organization’s leaders and drawing from AIESEC’s base of more than 50,000 student members in over 107 countries, the company recently sent 20 Canadians to Brazil to work with the company for a period of 12 to 18 months.
