QUEBEC – The Quebec Mineral Exploration Association (AEMQ) has bestowed its Entrepreneur of the Year award on Montreal’s Matamec Exploration for development work done at the Kipawa heavy rare earth elements project.

The award was presented during on Nov. 13 at the Quebec Mining Exploration convention. It recognizes “the work of a team and its contractors whose company has made significant progress over the past year. This progress can be related to the development of a specific project, to all company activities or the development of a mining project towards its phase of production.”

The Kipawa deposit, located 50 km east of Temiscamingue and 140 km south of Rouyn-Noranda, contains not only rare earths but recoverable amounts of yttrium, zirconium, niobium and tantalum. The recently completed feasibility study suggested construction could begin as early as Q1 2015, bringing 2,400 construction jobs into the province.
