LAS VEGAS – The Diamond Empowerment Fund (DEF) has announced the recipients of its 2018 Diamonds Do Good awards to be presented at its annual gala on Jan. 31 at the Four Seasons Ballroom. [caption id="attachment_1003721708" align="alignleft" width="300"] The Ekati mine in the Northwest Territories was the first of several successful diamond development. The NWT government is now being recognized for nurturing these projects. (Image: Dominion Diamond Mines)[/caption] The government of the Northwest Territories will receive the Diamonds Do Good Responsible Government Award. The DEF noted that the territory “has a robust mineral development strategy that protects the environment, enhances indigenous engagement and community capacity building, promotes sustainability and leverages a local workforce; all while fostering attractive investment opportunities for the benefit of the local communities.” Not to mention that Canada is now the third largest diamond producer in the world. The Diamonds Do Good Professional Advancement Award will go to Bruce Cleaver, CEO of De Beers Group, for his commitment to the advancement of women and girls in the company. The Diamonds Do Good Global Corporate Spirit Award will be given to Rolex for that company’s philanthropy and corporate social responsibility.
