TORONTO – The medals for various competitions at the 2015 Pan Am and Parapan Am Games were unveiled on March 3, 2015, at Toronto's Royal Ontario Museum. Barrick Gold is supplying the metals that will be used in the awards.

The choice of Barrick is fitting. Just as the games feature athletes from North and South America, the materials for the medals will come from those two continents. The company will source gold from Ontario (Hemlo mine), silver from the Dominican Republic (Pueblo Viejo mine), and copper from Chile (Zaldivar mine).

The Royal Canadian Mint will craft the medals, which for the first time in the history of the Pan Am and Parapan Am games, will all include Braille. Each medal will measure 86.7 mm in diameter and weigh 350 grams. The artwork was developed with the input of Christi Belcourt, a Métis visual artist. A total of 4,283 competition medals and 115,664 participation medals will be struck.

The Pan Am games will run July 10-26, 2015, and the Parapan Am games Aug. 7-14, in Toronto. Please visit the website at Toronto2015.org
