BRITISH COLUMBIA – HILLSBOROUGH RESOURCES of Vancouver and AESWapiti Energy Corp. are obtaining regulatory and permit approvals to build the new Wapiti thermal coal mine and 184-MW power generation facility near Tumbler Ridge. If the approvals are secured in a timely manner, construction of the power station will begin by the end of this year, and it will be operational in 2010. Mine development would begin in 2009.

Hillsborough is currently updating the resource numbers for Wapiti to include data from the 2006 drill program. The company expects the update will increase in resources and allow it to consider expansion into the regional electricity market. The resource estimate made in February 2006 listed 33.5 million measured and indicated tonnes.
