CALGARY - SNC-Lavalin announced it has been awarded a contract worth $650 million for engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of a froth treatment plant at an oil sands producer near Fort McMurray, AB. The froth plant will process 155,000 bbl/d of feedstock from the bitumen extraction plant.

SNC-Lavalin did not name the company awarding the contract, but it is believed to be Canadian Natural Resources, operator of the Horizon oil sands project. The engineering phase is now underway and construction is scheduled to begin in February 2012. Construction will be complete in September 2014.
