BRITISH COLUMBIA - Vancouver-based IMPERIAL METALS is "encouraged" by drilling in the C2 zone at its Mount Polley copper mine near Williams Lake. A 45-metre intersection in hole C206-01 assayed 1.23% Cu and 1.77 g/t Au. The near-surface C2 zone is located just south of the Cariboo pit.

Drilling farther south beyond the previously known limit of the C2 zone, encountered 0.36% Cu and 0.81 g/t Au over 35 metres. Imperial says these results open up the C2 zone for exploration in an area that has not been drill-tested before.

The Mount Polley mine was reopened a year ago, in March 2005, producing 30 million lb of copper and 30,000 oz of gold during the remainder of the calendar year. This year's exploration program will seek a new source of high-grade mill feed from the C2 zone less than 300 metres from the crusher. The latest and previous assay results from Mount Polley are available at www.ImperialMetals.com.
