BRITISH COLUMBIA – KGHM Ajax Mining, a joint venture of Abacus Mining and Exploration (20%) and KGHM Polska Miedz (80%), has modified the site plan for the Ajax copper-gold project, reducing the footprint of the mine and mill. The smaller footprint means fewer roads, shorter truck haulage distances, which are designed to considerably decrease on-site truck traffic, emissions and dust.

Two key changes were made. First, the tailings management facility will employ wet technology rather than a dry stack, and it will be located closer to the mine. Second, the waste rock stockpile, mill, primary crusher and temporary ore stockpiles have been moved outside the Kamloops city limits and relocated to a spot 3.5 km from the nearest city neighbourhoods.

The changes will be incorporated into the environmental assessment process going forward.

Further details of the new site plan are available at AjaxMine.ca. Or click here to download the brochure.
