BRITISH COLUMBIA – Thompson Creek Metals of Denver has begun commissioning the permanent secondary crushing circuit at its Mount Milligan copper-gold mine 145 km northwest of Prince George. The initial feed for the circuit is to be introduced by the end of October. The company said the total capital spend for the new circuit was expected to be between US$50 million and US$55 million, about US$10 million below the estimate. When the secondary crushing circuit is fully commissioned, the concentrator throughput will increase to 62,500 t/d. The Mount Milligan mine is a conventional truck and shovel operation with a projected life of 22 years. The deposit has proven and probable reserves of 506.4 million tonnes grading 0.196% Cu and 0.349 g/t Au containing 2.19 billion lb of copper and 5.69 oz of gold.
