YUKON - Vancouver-based SHERWOOD COPPER says it has completed the Phase 2 Minto mill expansion to 2,400 t/d from 1,560 t/d, two weeks ahead of schedule. Commissioning will continue through January 2008.

The mine and mill were officially opened in October 2007, and the Phase 2 mill expansion was already underway when CMJ visited the site at that time. On Dec. 12, Sherwood announced plans to study a further mill expansion to 3,500 t/d. The crushing, grinding and flotation capacity installed during Phase 2 will accommodate the Phase 3 throughput expansion.

The Minto mine is a high-grade open pit copper-gold operation located near Carmacks, YT. Sherwood acquired the Minto project in June 2005 and, in just two years from its acquisition, completed a bankable feasibility study, arranged project financing, and built the $100-million mine and mill. In parallel with these development activities, Sherwood has been running an exceptionally successful exploration program that has resulted in multiple discoveries of high-grade copper-gold mineralization across the Minto property.
