ZAMBIA - Zambian authorities have given the go-ahead to restart production at the leach project belonging to MOPANI COPPER MINES. Production was interrupted early in January due to a leak of pregnant leach solution. The solution was suspected of contaminating local drinking water.

The Mopani project is an integrated copper and cobalt producer. Operations include five underground mines, two vat and two heap leach SX/EW operations, concentrators, a cobalt plant, plus a copper smelter and refinery.

The Mopani mine is located in the Copper Belt province. It is a joint venture of GLENCORE INTERNATIONAL (73%) of Switzerland, FIRST QUANTUM MINERALS (7%) of Vancouver and the Zambian government (10%). Further information is available at www.Glencore.com.
