MEXICO – Red Tiger Mining of Toronto says its Luz del Cobre heap leach project has produced its first copper cathodes in Sonora state. The deposit is a near surface, blanket-type oxidized copper occurrence with measured resources of 2.0 million tonnes at 1.3% Cu and indicated resources of 2.5 million tonnes at 0.91% Cu. The mineralization is open on at least two sides. The planned production is an average of 15 million lb of copper per year over the first six years.

Prior to commissioning the plant, Red Tiger placed 250,000 tonnes of ore in its valley leach pad, and the pregnant solution was collected in a pond. The solution is piped to a solvent extraction plant where the copper content is raised prior to electrowinning to produce cathodes. The plant has a capacity of 48,000 lb of copper daily.

Complete details about the Luz del Cobre project are posted at RedTigerMining.com.
