NEWFOUNDLAND – The Research & Development Corp. (RDC) of Newfoundland and Labrador is coming to the aid of Rambler Metals and Mining as it seeks to extend the life of its Ming copper-gold mine near Baie Verte. The RDC has pledged $750,000 toward continuing an investigation of pre-concentrating ore from the Lower Footwall zone (LFZ) by using dense media separation (DMS).

Total cost of the project is $3.8 million, and Rambler will supply the balance of the necessary funds.

The LFZ has a measured and indicated resource of 18.2 million tonnes grading 1.43% Cu, and a preliminary economic assessment has been done for it. Rambler continues to test pre-concentration as a means of reducing the capital and operating costs associated with mining the zone. The mineralization consists of heavy, lower grade copper stringer sulphides hosted within a lighter weight chlorite schist. Small scale testing has shown that the two types of rock can be separated using DMS. The ability to recover this mineralization economically would extend the life of the mine.
