ONTARIO - Metalex Ventures of Kelowna, BC, and partner Arctic Star Diamond Corp. of Vancouver report that the final bulk sample from the U2 kimberlite revealed large, gem quality diamonds. The news has the partners planning a  further 10,000-tonne sampling program.

The size distribution of the U2 diamonds is very coarse with a high proportion of the diamonds being in the large size categories, according to Metalex. Sampling yielded 86 large (+1.7-mm) diamonds totalling 15.95 carats, 73 of which were white. The two largest stones (2.61 and 1.25 ct) will be cut as high quality white gems.

The sampling program recently completed also included material from the T1 kimberlite where 128 large (+1.7-mm) diamonds totalling 11.44 ct were recovered. Sixty-nine of the stones were classified as white.
