BADEN, Switzerland — ABB has been awarded a contract worth over $28 million for the Mount Milligan copper-gold project owned by Vancouver's Terrane Metals. ABB will provide power and technology solutions to help optimize energy use and equipment reliability in the grinding circuit.

The contract calls for the supply of a complete 22-MW gearless mill drive for a 12-metre SAG mill. It also calls for delivery of two dual pinion mill drives for a pair of 6.5 MW, 8-metre ball mills. ABB is supplying motors, transformers synchronizers and electrics. Both SAG and ball mills will be powered by variable speed drives.

Delivery is scheduled by the end of 2011, followed by start-up of the mine and mill in 2012.
