THUNDER BAY, Ontario - The 2006 NORTHERN ONTARIO BUSINESS AWARD for Entrepreneur of the Year has been given to Bob Lipic, the 62-year-old president and CEO of MINING TECHNOLOGIES INTERNATIONAL in Sudbury. He is a geology graduate and current board member at the Haileybury School of Mines.

While working for Drillco, Lipic spent a great deal of time working with Inco subsidiary Continuous Mining System. When CMS was sold, he jumped at the opportunity to buy it and two other businesses in the United States. He called his enterprise Drillex International and then Mining Technologies International as it grew into one of Canada's largest mining equipment manufacturers and suppliers.

Lipic's negotiating skills are not lost on Russian and Chinese customers. He personally heads the negotiating team that is often asked to participate in unusual culinary delights and is always outnumbered. His success was outlined at the awards banquet held on Oct. 5.

The list of all Northern Ontario Business Award winners is available at www.noba.ca.
