ONTARIO - INCO LIMITED of Toronto has pledged $300,000 toward a detailed design study for LAURENTIAN UNIVERSITY's Living with Lakes in Sudbury. The centre will provide a new home for the growing school's internationally recognized Co-operative Freshwater Ecology Unit (CFEU).

"For the past 15 years, Inco has been a proud supporter and partner of the Co-operative Freshwater Ecology Unit, which has provided us with critical information to gauge and validate the effectiveness of our many environmental initiatives," said Mark Cutifani, Inco's president of North America / Europe. "Our contribution to the Living with Lakes Centre will grow and enhance the work of the CFEU as we continue to work together to ensure the health and recovery of northern lakes."

Through its collaboration with the CFEU, Inco has supported water quality monitoring studies including the Killarney biodiversity study, the Canada/Norway collaborative Northern Lakes Recovery Study, as well as the development of methods to monitor the quality of water downstream of mining activities.

For more information on the Living with Lakes Centre, contact: Michel Bchard, Laurentian University's director of public affairs at 705-675-1151 ext 3408 or mbechard@laurentian.ca.
