BEIJING - The first Mining Environmental Protection Award made at the inaugural China Mining 2006 was made earlier this month to GOLDEN CHINA RESOURCES of Montreal and MICHELAGO LTD. The honour was made in recognition of their initiative, leadership, innovation and accomplishment in the interest of sustainable development at their gold mine in Shandong Province. BACTECH MINING CORP. of Toronto supplied the BioGold leaching plant that has operated successfully since 2001 (see www.BacTech.com).

In addition to the bacterial oxidation plant, the Michelago operates a CIL plant, a base metal flotation circuit and 51% of a gold refinery, and has a seat on the Shanghai Gold Exchange. The company currently purchases gold concentrates from a number of mining operations and produces about 120,000 oz of 99.99% pure gold bullion annually.

Golden China and Michelago are in the last stages of a business combination. Although the amalgamation is not yet officially completed, Golden China has provided funding for Michelago and the BioGold facility. As a result, the award was presented to both companies at the 2006 China Mining Conference in Beijing.
