PEORIA, ILLINOIS - CATERPILLAR is adding the newest GPS technology to its control and guidance products to take advantage of a broader range of GPS positioning frequencies. Customers worldwide will see increased signal strength, better signal acquisition and retention, improved initialization time, and more robust performance overall. The northernmost (Canada) and southernmost (Australia and southern Africa) users will benefit most from this improvement. Improved uptime and capabilities will also be experienced in working areas where line of sight to the sky is difficult, such as dense stands of trees, urban areas, and deep open pit mines.

Cat's new technology will take advantage of recent enhancements to the US NavStar GPS system as well as Russia's renewed commitment and improvements to its Glonass satellite constellation. The new technology will be available on Cat equipment by the end of 2006.
