PERU - CANDENTE RESOURCE CORP. of Vancouver announced that it and its two Peruvian subsidiaries have won the Fijet America Corporate Excellency 2005 Golden Trophy for being the Best of the Year for 2005 in the mining sector. The award is made by the Superior International Council of Iberian Press to companies that contribute significantly to the development of Spanish-speaking countries. Awards are given in eight to 12 business sectors.
"We have chosen Candente for their excellent work with local communities and in protecting the environment while advancing the Canariaco copper project to a tangible reality," said the Council.
Candente has been exploring for copper and gold in Peru since 1997. It employs over 1,100 people on a rotational basis from 20 different local communities. The company also contributes to self-sustaining social programs such as medical facilities and supplies for schools. Candente's environmental efforts include baseline studies before drilling, revegetation, and educating local residents on how to spot problems.
