QUEBEC - The QUEBEC MINERAL EXPLORATION ASSOCIATION has awarded its prestigious Prospector of the Year prize to the team of FALCONBRIDGE and ALEXIS MINERALS.

The award recognizes the significance of the West Ansil property base metal discovery near Rouyn-Noranda in March 2005. The deposit, which is only 10 km from Falconbridge's Horne smelter, contains gold- and copper-rich massive sulphides and associated copper stringer zones. It is located on a basalt-andesite contact between two known sulphide ore-bearing units. Falconbridge and Alexis continue to diamond drill on the property so as to fully evaluate its mineral potential.

Gilles Bouchard, Falconbridge's manager of copper-zinc exploration in North America, stated, "This discovery is more satisfying given that it follows after only four months of mineral exploration in the area. The Alexis-Falconbridge partnership is a great success. We are very proud of the team of geologists and technicians in our Rouyn-Noranda office that have contributed to this discovery's success."

David M. Rigg, president & CEO, accepted the award on behalf of Alexis. He said, "This is a significant endorsement for the Alexis-Falconbridge team by our peers in Quebec's mining industry. The award is a testament to the energy and approach of our board of directors, our employees and our consultants and reflects recognition of their dedication to exploration and development of our extensive properties in the Abitibi District of Quebec. I am very pleased by this recognition and am very proud of our Team's achievement."
