BURKINA FASOIamGold of Toronto has chosen Vancouver-based Wenco to supply its GPS-based fleet management solution at IamGold's Essakane gold mine. Wenco will install its latest release of software and mobile data terminals on the entire fleet consisting of Cat 777 and 785 trucks, Cat 992 and 993 loaders, Terex RH90 excavator, and Terex RH120 face shovels. The system has been customized and the supporting documents are available in French, the country's native language.

 

Waste stripping and construction has begun at the $350 million Essakane project. Commissioning is set for October 2009, and full production is anticipated by August 2010. A study in July 2008 indicates proven and probable reserves of 3.1 million ounces. Average gold production is expected to be approximately 315,000 oz over a minimum nine-year mine life at an average cash operating cost of US$358/oz, using aUS$600/oz gold price and a US$85/bbl oil price.

 

Essakane is Wenco’s third system to be installed at mines owned by IamGold.
