TORONTO - The geochemical laboratory of SGS Mineral Services has extended its scope of accredited tests certified to the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025. The certification includes the company's proprietary MMITM (mobile metal ion) methodology, and it will be added to the company's existing scope of registered tests. The assessment measured conformance to the requirements of the ISO/IEC 17025 standard for the general requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories.

Twenty-two test methods were evaluated, covering more than 75 elements, including fire assay with inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) and atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS); gravimetric analysis for gold; silver by aqua regia digestion and strong acid digestion; multi-elemental and rare earth packages by various digestion techniques (aqua regia, strong acid, peroxide fusion) and instrumentation techniques involving inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) and sulphur-carbon analysis.

The Toronto facility now has the largest scope of minerals services geochemical tests registered to the ISO-IEC 17025 standard and is one of the most comprehensive geochemistry laboratories in the world, offering an extensive range of speciality and routine geochemical testing services.

The evaluation documents SGS' geochemical analysis expertise and adds to the existing exploration, metallurgical, mineralogy and water treatment services that SGS offers to its clients globally.
