VANCOUVER – Mining for Miracles, BC's mining community's longstanding fundraising campaign for BC Children's Hospital, revealed a cheque for $1,511,214 at BC Children's Hospital Foundation's 27th annual Miracle Weekend on June 1.

Mining for Miracles' success relies on the generosity of many individuals and corporations. Hundreds of mining, exploration and development companies, service providers and suppliers across British Columbia, Alberta, the Yukon and Northwest Territories, and also employees, and their friends and family contributed to the total. Donations were made through employee and corporate fundraising initiatives and events such as Jeans Day™, the Diamond Draw, Slo-Pitch, the Hooked on Miracles Fishing Tournament, and the Teck Celebrity Pie Throw.

In 2013 and 2014, Mining for Miracles raised funds to support the BC Children's Hospital BioBank. Biobanking is a new research tool that holds the potential to improve treatments and find cures for diseases affecting millions of children. This will be the first institutional pediatric biobank in Canada.

Said Dr. Suzanne Vercauteren, director of BC Children's Hospital BioBank, "Without the generosity of the mining industry, we would not be able to set up this new and incredibly important facility at BC Children's Hospital."
