LONDON, U.K. – The African Barrick name is fading from the continent as the company changed its name to Acacia Mining plc on Nov. 27, 2014. The change comes as the company focuses on its gold portfolio in Africa. Despite the name change, Acacia remains 64% owned by Toronto-based Barrick Gold Corp., from which it was spun out in 2010.

Acacia operates three gold mines – Bulyanhulu, Buzwagi and North Mara – in Tanzania. At the North Mara mine, the company is moving the Gokona underground project into the development phase. A joint venture has also been created with Sarama Resources at the South Hounde project is Burkina Faso.

The recent corporate presentation, the first using the new name, outlines Acacia's five-year plans. Click here to view it.
