YUKON – Vancouver-based Western Copper and Gold Corp. has awarded the engineering, procurement and construction management contract for the Casino gold-copper project to M3 Engineering and Technology of Tucson, AZ. The Casino property is located 300 km northwest of Whitehorse.

Western said M3 is familiar with the Casino project because it has worked on it from an early stage, preparing two pre-feasibility and the definitive feasibility studies. The projected open pit mine life is 22 years, beginning in 2017 with a heap leach and continuing in 2019 with a 120,000-t/d conventional flotation mill. Proven and probable reserves suitable for milling total 976 million tonnes grading 0.20% Cu, 0.22 g/t Au, 0.23% Mo, and 1.73 g/t Ag. Reserves suitable for heap leaching total 82 million tonnes grading 0.04% Cu, 0.32 g/t Au, and 2.42 g/t Ag.

Western and Siemens concluded a memorandum of understanding in May 2014 covering the major electrical equipment for the power plant, mine and processing facilities.

The company has also received permits for the installation and operation of liquid natural gas storage and vapourization facilities at the site, replacing expensive diesel generators.
