NEWFOUNDLAND - Marathon Gold of Toronto says the open pit resource potential of the Leprechaun gold deposit continues to expand. The Leprechaun deposit is part of the Valentine Lake property 60 km south of Buchans. The project is a 50:50 joint venture of Marathon Gold (operator) and Mountain Lake Resources of Halifax.

Step-out holes in what Marathon calls the "Heart of Gold" area returned wide intervals with high grades. These included 3.70 g/t Au over 9.0 metres with 10.59 g/t over 3.0 metres, and in another hole 2.31 g/t Au over 16.2 metres including 11.67 g/t over 2.9 metres.  All grades are uncut.

Marathon earlier released a measured and indicated resource estimate for the Leprechaun deposit of .3.3 million tonnes grading 2.62 g/t plus an inferred resource of 4.4 million tonnes grading 2.01 g/t Au.
