QUEBEC - The Beaufor mine 25 km from Val d'Or has produced its one-millionth ounce of gold - 517,129 oz from 1933 to 1995 and a further 482,871 oz since its reopening in 1996. The mine is owned by Richmont Mines (50% and operator) of Rouyn-Noranda, QC, and Louvem Mines of Montreal (50%).

"It is a significant achievement in the life of any mine to reach production of one million gold ounces. For a small, narrow vein underground gold mine like Beaufor, however, it is all the more notable, and is a testament to the hard work, determination and dedication of the mine's employees over the years," said Richmont president and CEO Martin Rivard in a news release.

And there might be another million ounces in the future. The recently discovered Zone 350 lies only 800 metres to the southwest of the mine infrastructure. The zone has yielded core samples that assayed 23.57 g/t Au over a true with of 0.90 metres and 100.00 g/t over a true width of 0.91 metres.
