QUEBEC - The Midway gold mine development 16 km west of Val d'Or is on schedule, says owner NORTHERN STAR MINING of Vancouver. Foundation work for the headframe, hoist and building is complete and the installation is nearly so. The shaft collar needed only minor repairs before it could be used.

The Midway property includes the former Malartic Goldfields mine. Historic drilling revealed that gold mineralization is present below 2,900 ft, as deep as the old mine was developed. Past geological reports indicate the property contains probable resources of 420,504 tons at a grade of 0.201 opt Au and possible resources of 255,268 tons at a grade of 0.201 opt Au. Including a mining dilution factor (30%), all category reserves are approximately 801,372 tons at a diluted mining grade of 0.174 opt Au using a 0.015 opt cutoff, all located in new discovery zones, to a depth of 900 ft. In addition, possible geologic resources of 451,943 tons at a grade of 0.16 opt Au are located adjacent to the old mine working areas and accessible from any new mine project. These figures are not compliant with National Instrument 43-101.

Northern Star began a 50,000-ft drilling program on the property in 2003. It now plans to dewater the shaft and proceed with underground exploration. More information is available at www.NSMgold.com.
