NORTHERN ONTARIO Since resuming production at the Macassa gold mine, KIRKLAND LAKE GOLD initiated a diamond drill program to increase potential reserves at the mine. Definition drilling on the north block of the D zone has returned intersections including 1.42 opt Au over 8.0 ft and 0.52 opt Au over 13.2 ft. There have been other intersections of 0.72 opt Au over 5.4 ft and 0.52 opt Au over 6.6 ft.

The D zone consists of a south and a north block located above the 3800 level adjacent to No.3 shaft. Earlier reports put probable reserves in the south block at about 80,500 tons at 0.86 opt Au. The north block and C vein contain indicated resources of 42,002 tons at 0.69 opt Au.

Kirkland Lake is developing the D zone on the 3400 and 3800 levels, planning to reach production in June 2004.
