MEXICO – McEwen Mining of Toronto has made the initial gold pour at the first phase of the El Gallo project in Sinaloa State. Commercial production rates should be reached by the end of 2012. The production target for the remainder of this year is 10,000 oz, and beginning in 2013 will be 30,000 oz/year.

El Gallo is an open pit, heap leaching silver-gold operation. The feasibility study for the second phase was completed in September 2012. Last year’s resource estimate included a measured resource of 17.1 million tonnes grading 65.3 g/t Ag and 0.05 g/t Au, an indicated resource of 2.4 million tonnes at 43.7 g/t Ag and 0.03 g/t Au, and an inferred resource of 6.1 million tonnes grading 23.4 g/t Ag an 0.02 g/t Au.
