ONTARIO — An "unexpected obstruction" blocked the paste fill borehole above Level 34 of the Macassa gold mine on June 23, 2009, said Kirkland Lake Gold. Mining has been suspended in certain areas requiring paste fill until the problem can be resolved.

The blockage occurred before a scheduled backup hole for the paste fill system was to be drilled. Work on the new hole has been accelerated, but it may take several weeks to complete. Meanwhile, affected stoping crews have been reassigned to exploration, capital or stop development activities.

An update on the situation is expected on July 20 to coincide with the release of the company's annual results. See also www.KLGold.com.
