GUATEMALA – GLAMIS GOLD of Reno, Nev., says its Marlin gold mine is in the commissioning stage with commercial production expected by Nov. 1, 2005. The company called the 18-month construction period “nearly flawless”, but the project was the subject of heated opposition. (See CMJ June 2005 and Net News May 4 & May 11, 2005.)
Glamis puts the preliminary capital cost estimate at less than the US$150 million that was projected. The Marlin mine will produce about 250,000 oz of gold and over 3.5 million oz of silver next year. Photos of the project are posted at www.Glamis.com.
