ONTARIO – Grafoid Inc., headquartered in Ottawa, has officially opened its high purity, high energy density graphene facilities in Kingston. The company marked the occasion with the re-launch of its updated website Grafoid.com.

The new 21,000-m2 facility is the new home of Grafoid's MesoGraf™ research and development labs, testing facilities, engineering, product development and the production plant.

A private company, Grafoid was established in September 2011. It announced its global science and business platform with Focus Graphite, Grafite Zero, and the National University of Singapore's Graphene Research Center. Graphite Zero began producing MesoGraf and its derivatives earlier this year.

The Wikipedia definition of graphene is "pure carbon in the form of a very thin, nearly transparent sheet, one atom thick. It is remarkably strong … and it conducts heat and electricity with great efficiency. While scientists had theorized about graphene for decades, it was first produced in the lab in 2004. Because it is virtually two-dimensional, it interacts oddly with light and with other materials."
