GRINDING EQUIPMENT: Norilsk chooses Metso for Talnakh mill

RUSSIA – Norilsk Nickel has selected Metso grinding equipment for its Talnakh concentrator on the Taimyr Peninsula in Siberia, according to the manufacturer. Norilsk has ordered a 10.4-metre diameter SAG grinding mill and a pair of 6.7-metre diameter ball mills. The order includes ancillary equipment plus installation and commissioning services.

The Talnakh concentrator treats ores from the nearby Talnakh and Oktyabrsky deposits to produce nickel, copper and pyrrhotite concentrates. The mill is undergoing an expansion to 17.0 million tonnes of ore annually from the current rate of 10.5 million t/y.

The value of Metso's is approximately $69 million (€40 million), and a delivery is to be completed by the end of 2010.
