The acquisition of Red Back Mining by Kinross Gold has looks to be an excellent match, giving Kinross a big boost to ounces in the ground and a new base on the African continent. CMJ readers know, however, that few mergers proceed smoothly. Offers from other interested parties are often made, and the final price can be pushed up. Our question this week is: Would you approve the Kinross-Red Back merger in its present form?

You are invited to cast your vote by going to the CMJ home page, www.CanadianMiningJournal.com, and finding the Hot Topic Opinion question on the left hand side of the page.

Two weeks ago we asked our readers to vote for the mining town where they would be the happiest. The votes are in, and Sudbury, ON (23.7%) and Val d'Or, QC (17.1%) are the front runners. Red Lake, ON (9.2%) was a distant third, followed by any fly in/out site (7.9%). Perhaps the result has something to do with the distribution of CMJ readers.
