YELLOWKNIFE – Representatives of DE BEERS CANADA and the YELLOWKNIVES DENE FIRST NATION have reached agreement on the impact benefit agreement covering De Beers Snap Lake diamond mine. The agreement sets out the specific benefits that the Dene will receive from the project, notably employment, business opportunities, training and financial compensation.

This $490-million development is scheduled to open in the third quarter of 2007. Production is planned at 1.5 million carats/year. This will be De Beers’ first mine outside of Africa. See the company’s website at www.DeBeersCanada.com.
