QUEBEC – ArcelorMittal has awarded the iron-headed steel cane to the master of the Panamax Jade, the first transatlantic bulk ore carrier to anchor at the company's dock in Port-Cartier in 2013. The ship is under the command of Captain Richardo Resma Deloy.

Flying the Cypriot flag, the Panamax Jade docked in the afternoon of Jan. 8. It returned to sea on Jan. 9, with 57,088 tonnes of iron oxide pellets destined for ArcelorMittal's steel facilities in Point Lisas, Trinidad and Tobago. It will take the Panamax Jade approximately 10 days to reach its destination.

In 2012, the ArcelorMittal Mining Canada port hosted 380 vessels and transhipped in excess of 18 million tonnes of iron concentrate and iron oxide pellets, as well as grain products for customers in America, Europe, Africa and Asia.

ArcelorMittal Canada of Montreal operates the Mount Wright and Fire Lake iron ore mines. The recent acquisition of Baffinland Iron Ore Mines will lead to a third mine in Nunavut.
