MONROE, N. Carolina A unique 48-inch knife gate valve made of high strength 2205 duplex steel is particularly suited for corrosive and abrasive applications. It is made of a new ferritic-austenitic stainless steel, making it 50% stronger and more corrosion-resistant than austenitic stainless steel valves, according to the manufacturer, STAINLESS VALVE COMPANY.
This new valve has a face-to-face dimension of six inches. It assembles without welding, which eliminates the possibility of preferential corrosion due to the influence of welding on the crystallographic structure. It is also said to have 50% more flow cross-section compared with 36-inch valves. Better throughput and less friction mean more volume.
