NEWFOUNDLAND – Vale SA and United Steelworkers Local 9508 have reached a tentative deal that will end the 18-month strike of workers at the Voisey’s Bay nickel mine near Nain. Bill Wells, a mediator appointed by the province aided in reaching the agreement, although no details were available at press time.

The agreement will be presented to union members over the next few days, according to Vale. The company also noted that the Steelworkers’ bargaining team unanimously endorsed the tentative contract.
