VANCOUVER – At a gala event this evening Ernst & Young will be honouring Dr. Norman B. Keevil, chairman of Teck Resources, with the Entrepreneur of the Year 2012 Pacific Lifetime Achievement award for his significant contributions to the business community of British Columbia. The award recognizes his outstanding entrepreneurial achievements and leadership.

Widely known and admired in the mining industry, Keevil has grown Teck from a few small gold mines in Ontario and Quebec into a company with operations across Canada as well as in Australia, Latin America and the United States. He is a supporter of the Mineral Deposits Research Unit at the University of British Columbia (UBC), as well as the founder of the Norman B. Keevil Chair in Mineral Exploration at UBC, the Teck Chair in Exploration Geophysics at the University of Toronto, and a scholarship fund at the University of Western Ontario.

Ernst & Young notes that its Entrepreneur of the Year Lifetime Achievement award is about moral philanthropy, celebrating the kind of public mentorship needed to continually renew Canada’ business climate by honouring leadership at the highest level in business and the community.
