DORCHESTER, New Brunswick - North America's largest structural plate stockpile tunnel has been designed by Atlantic Industries (AIL) and installed at the new Canadian Malartic gold mine owned by Osisko Mining. The mine is located in northern Quebec and had its official opening on May 31, 2011.

Stockpile tunnels must withstand extremely heavy loads, and for years concrete was the construction material of choice. Then AIL offered a solution that was equally strong, easier to install and most cost-effective - its Super-Cor product.

Super-Cor is a premium, hot-dip-galvanized, deeply corrugated, structural steel plate ideal for large applications. It is an alternative to conventional bridges, and AIL has a portfolio of successful projects to prove it works.

At the Canadian Malartic mine, the project was particularly challenging for AIL engineers because of the unusually large hopper openings. The Super-Cor was encased in AIL's concrete reinforcement rib system around the openings to provide the needed strength.

AIL has since completed several other tunnel projects for Osisko. See what the company can do at your project. Visit www.AIL.ca.
